About Moshe
Dr. Moshe Avital (1928–2020) was a Holocaust survivor and lifelong Jewish educator. He was the youngest of 11 children, proud father of three daughters, 11 grandchildren and countless great-grandchildren.
After surviving six concentration camps, he immigrated to Palestine after the war and defended Israel’s birth as a member of the Haganah. He dedicated his life to teaching, writing, and preserving Jewish history and tradition. He served for many years as the cantor of Congregation Sons of Israel in Leonia, authored numerous books, and was a beloved presence in the New Rochelle community. He spoke to hundreds of groups of both children and adults to educate them on the Holocaust.
He passed away in 2020 at the age of 92.
